Louisiana Construction Defect Statute
An action in contract, tort, or otherwise may be brought within 5 years after the date of registry in mortgage office of acceptance of work by owner or, if acceptance is not recorded within 6 months of occupation/possession, 5 years after improvement is so occupied. LA. REV. STAT. ANN. § 9:2772(A). If injury occurs during the 5th year after the date set forth under section A, action may be brought within 1 year after date of injury, but no more than 6 years after date set forth in section A. LA. REV. STAT. ANN. § 9:2772(C). An action against a contractor or an architect on account of defects of construction, renovation or repair of building and other works is subject to a liberative 10 year limitation. LA. CIV. CODE ANN. ART. 3500.
